A man found a cocoon of a butterfly, one day a small opening appeared.
He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force it's body through that little hole.
Then it seemed to stop making any progress.
It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could, and could not go further.
So the man decided to help the butterfly.
He took a pair of scissors, and snipped off the remaining part of the cocoon.
The butterfly then emerged easily,
But it had a swollen body, and small shrivelled wings.
The man continued to watch the butterfly,
Beacuse he expected that at any moment, the wings would expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time.
Neither happened in fact...
The butterfly spent the rest of it's life crawling around with a swollen body and shrivelled wings.
It was never able to fly.
What this man, in his kindness and haste, did not understand was,
that restricting the cocoon and the struggle for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening,
was God's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into it's wings,
so it would be ready for flight, once it achieved it's freedom from the cocoon.
Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our lives.
If God allowed us to go through our lives without any obstacles, it would cripple us.
We would not be as strong as we could have been.
We could never fly!
God looked around his garden, and found an empty place,
He then looked down upon the earth and saw your loving face.
He put his arms around you, and lifted you to rest,
His garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering,he knew you were in pain,
And knew that you would never get well on earth again.
Her saw your path was difficult, he closed your tired eyes,
He whispered to you, "Peace be thine", and gave you wings to fly.
When we saw you sleeping, so calm and free of pain,
We would not wish you back to earth to suffer once again.
You've left us precious memories, your love will be our guide,
You live on through our family, you're always by our side.
It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you, on the day called you home.
Don't think of him as gone away,
His journey's just begun.
Life holds so many facets,
This earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting,
From the sorrows and the tears.
In a place of warmth and comfort,
Where there are no days or years.
Think how he must be wishing,
That we could know today,
How nothing but our sadness,
Can really pass away.
And think of him as living,
In the hearts of those he touched...
For nothing loved is lost -
and he was loved so much.
I have one wish this Christmas,
That I dream so hard to be true,
Is to be cuddled up with,
And holding on to you.
I know that this can't happen,
So what i'll do for you,
Is send my love with the Angels,
With a kiss from me to you x
Mary watch me on the stairs,
Take away my fears and cares.
Fill me with a sense of peace,
Like I am wrapped in a cloak of fleece,
Of baby lambs born anew,
The likes of which your son did do,
So I may live a life of joy,
And remember the legacy of your little boy.
Amen
